A day spent exploring Achill Island…
* Achill Henge was ‘designed’ and constructed by Joe McNamara, AKA ‘The Anglo Avenger’, a man who came to prominence in September 2010 when he drove a cement lorry adorned with the words ‘toxic bank’ and ‘Anglo’ up to the gates of Leinster House as a mark of protest.
4.5m high and 30m in diameter, Achill henge is, according to Mr. McNamara, “a place of reflection” and therefore did not require planning permission. Mayo County Council has brought High Court proceedings against him. The case has been adjourned until later this month.
